Our give chance culture - the EFFECT

There is a cause to every effect. The following, an extract from NST's HARD COPY, 22 September 2005, is a shocking EFFECT.

"Last year alone, the Government lost about RM9.3 billion in terms of damageto property, manhours lost, manpower, medical bills and insurance claims dueto road accidents, according to Transport Ministry figures.

There were 326,817 road accidents, with 6,623 fatalities. That means 17 lives were lost on the average every day.

Malaysia, in fact, has the dubious distinction of having one of the worst per capita road accident death rates in the world at almost 27 per 100,000 population. This is according to latest figures from New York-based Drive and Stay Alive, Inc."

And what would have been the CAUSE, you might ask. Our ever give chance culture lah. Pay traffic fines late got discount, pay parking summons late got discount, renew MyKad late got contest and no show for National Service also give chance. What else have I missed out?

Isn't it time to wield the rod and discipline the undisciplined?
