Up, up, up & up
Announced last month that Toll rates for five highways to go up on Jan 1.
In today's papers, expect three more ups.
Cement prices go up
Price of ice to head 'north' from Jan 1

60 Minutes Per Hour
As we come to the close of 2006 and enter the New Year, let'e ponder over this very profound quotation from C.S. Lewis;
"The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is."

The World is Flat
I am now into my second month reading "The World is Flat" by Thomas L. Friedman. This is a record for me as I normally finishes a new book within a week or two. I had initially thought of finishing it before I blog about it but Chapter Ten hits too close to home to hold back for long ... I might forget.

"Some countries (such as South Korea and Taiwan) seem to be able to focus their energies on the priority of economic development and others (such as Egypt and Syria) get distracted by ideology and local feuds. Some countries have leaders who use their time in office to try to drive modernisation rather than personally enrich themselves. And some countries simply have venal elites, who use their time in office to line their pockets and then invest those riches in Swiss real estate."Doesn't the above para describe our beloved country so aptly?

The Vagina Monologues
Do you remember The Vagina Monologues? It was banned in Malaysia sometime in 2002 if I remember correctly. Why? Only our moral guardians knows. A friend of mine suggested that they probably were drooling at the Vagina which they wanted to keep for themselves ... leaving us with only the Monologues!
OK, for the uninitiated, this episodic play was written by Eve Ensler and premiered Off-Broadway in 1996.
TED2004 brings us a recorded presentation in which she performs an excerpt from "The Vagina Monologues" and explains how the show took on a life of its own.
Folks, have fun with The Vagina. You may do it online or download the mp3 audio or the video.
