The Debacle That Was The Dialogue

Whoareyoutryingtokid?

During the public hearing, the people from across the Kesas Highway suggested that the flyover will serve only Subang Heights residents. Guess how many homes will there be in Subang Heights? About 300. And guess how much the flyover will cost? Approximately RM20m.

A RM20m flyover for only 300 home owners? Whoareyoutryingtokid?

This cup is like your head

A story is told of a very educated gentleman visiting a well-known Buddhist master to see what he could learn from the spiritual teacher. The holy man poured a cup of tea for the man and kept pouring and pouring until it was spilling all over the floor.

Finally, the man could not sit silently any longer and asked: "Why are you overfilling the cup?" The Buddhist master replied: "This cup is like your head. It is so full that nothing else will go into it. You must empty yourself first in order to learn anything new from me."

And that's worth thinking about.

A private road for street parties

How did the people from across the Kesas Highway come to the conclusion that Rusman and his residents in USJ3ABCD are objecting to the construction of the RM20m flyover because they want to turn Persiaran Setia into a private road for street parties and the like? It has got to be this posting which was quoted out of context.

How did they conclude that only a small group of residents from USJ3ABCD are objecting? They surely cannot be blind to the presence of the representatives from JKP2, 3 & 7, can they?

What acts of desperation are these?

What is it?

More women do it facing away, while most man face towards it.

Women take longer doing it. Men do it when they need to and stay only as long as necessary.

Women do it thinking about their fitness flaws and chores they have to do. Men do it thinking about sex and work.

Women find this to be a nurturing place of escape. Men are more businesslike; they get wet, get clean, get out, get dry,and get dressed. What is it?

It's the attitude

Wednesday morning, about 8am in Taipan, USJ 10. Light traffic and plenty of parking space. Yet, this Wira chose to just ignore the empty lot in front of her and double-parked.

Why, I don't know. She probably don't either.

Really, it's the attitude that causes our traffic woes in the Taipan.

Ha mi kang tau?

A contractor friend called me this morning and I greeted him, "Ha mi kang tau?" Meaning what's up or got lobang ah?

His reply signalled tough times ahead. "Oo kang boh thau. Oo thau boh kang."

I'll probably try the same question after Friday and hope to solicit a better response this time.

RM5?

You may not believe it, but with only RM5 a year, anyone can now sign up for an e-learning programme developed by United Kingdom-based City and Guilds and be able to obtain a qualification or qualifications recognised worldwide. Batteries not included, I am sure.

Updated from The Star: The programme offered three courses – English for Speakers of Other Languages, Computerised Accounting and Information Technology – but more courses would be available from time to time. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

My coaches, Alson and Ean make so much mention of John Maxwell and his Leadership series that they had my curiousity won over. So last week, I got myself a copy of the highly recommended The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, from MPH at a value buy of only RM29.90.

I am enjoying the book and from what I have covered so far, it is worth my every sen spent.

Come back later for the book review.

Who can be more dumberer?

Alor Gajah municipal council chairman Mustadza Abu Bakar has the cheek to say this, "We were driven by tour guides around the two cities. We could not meet the mayor or other council authorities in the two places as we could not arrange it on time. They were too busy to see us. So, we just went around and looked about on our own."

If you think the Selangor State government was dumb to try to belly dance, this has to be dumberer. I motion to confer Mustadza Abu Bakar a recipient of The Malaysian Incredibly Dumb Award.

Just let go and trust

A perfect example of how most people search for answers in life, but when the answers don't fit with their old ways of thinking they simply ignore them and continue searching:

A man who is walking along a cliff all of a sudden loses his balance, slips and falls off, but he has the presence of mind to grab on to the ledge.

He's hanging there for dear life. He's hanging and hanging and finally calls out, 'Is there anybody up there that can help me?"

There's no answer.

He keeps calling and calling and finally this big bellowing voice calls back, 'This is God. I can help you. Just let go and trust.'

Next thing you hear, 'Is there anybody else up there that can help me?'

Isn't this worth thinking about this Sunday morning?

Kind words

Mack's generosity make me paiseh only. Thank you for your kind words, my friend. Still learning the ropes lah.

Who is f-LYING at the flyover?

Who is f-LYING at on the flyover?

Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said approval for the proposed Batu 3 - USJ 3 flyover was given by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) in the late 90s.

MPSJ Head of engineering department Umi Kalthum Ahmad said the proposed flyover has not been approved yet.

So who is f-LYING at on the flyover?

For the record, the majority of USJ residents, especially those of USJ 3 are against the idea of a proposed Batu Tiga - USJ3 flyover which they feel will aggravate the traffic congestion in the area. If you are familar with the traffic conditions in USJ and is a frequent commuter along Jalan Tujuan, you will agree that the residents do have a valid reason to feel unhappy. It just doesn't make any cow-sense to discharge traffic into an area that is already bursting at the seams.

Now who f(LIED) at on the flyover?

Our give chance culture - the EFFECT

There is a cause to every effect. The following, an extract from NST's HARD COPY, 22 September 2005, is a shocking EFFECT.

"Last year alone, the Government lost about RM9.3 billion in terms of damageto property, manhours lost, manpower, medical bills and insurance claims dueto road accidents, according to Transport Ministry figures.

There were 326,817 road accidents, with 6,623 fatalities. That means 17 lives were lost on the average every day.

Malaysia, in fact, has the dubious distinction of having one of the worst per capita road accident death rates in the world at almost 27 per 100,000 population. This is according to latest figures from New York-based Drive and Stay Alive, Inc."

And what would have been the CAUSE, you might ask. Our ever give chance culture lah. Pay traffic fines late got discount, pay parking summons late got discount, renew MyKad late got contest and no show for National Service also give chance. What else have I missed out?

Isn't it time to wield the rod and discipline the undisciplined?

KM444

To all those speed fiends out there, where is KM444? You better go find out loh. Don't say you have not been warned because this is first hand information.

Kathina ceremony

The Subang Jaya Buddhist Association will be having the Kathina ceremony on Sunday, 30 October 2005.

For more information, please contact Sister Lily before 30 September 2005.

Our give chance culture

Logically, they should also be penalised for paying late.

Instead, they were offered a 50% discount on their traffic fines, which was supposed to end today. This offer has been extended to Sept 30 because of the last minute rush, according to The Star, 22/9/2005. So what else is new?

You see, this good intention may be counterproductive. It will only serve to further encourage future offenders to delay or not pay their summons because they are going to get another discount come the next Merdeka Day, anyway.

I say that all offenders must be made to pay for their offences. There should be no compromise, please.

It's AlQaeda!

It's now been confirmed that Al Qaeda are responsible for the flooding of New Orleans. Authorities are now looking for a suicide plumber!

Thanks to Siufai, LEE for this joke.

You deliver first, then we pay

The Star reported 21 Sept 2005 that there will be no increase in water tariffs in the Klang Valley until the main water supplier in Selangor and the Federal Territory improves its efficiency and water quality. Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) said under its agreement with the Government, the company has to first meet certain targets before it can request for an increase in water charges. Full report here.

Sounds fair. You deliver first, then we pay.

Are the alarm bells ringing?

Two reports caught my attention and had me wondering today.

From the NST , 21 Sept 2005 ... "But when judges draw attention to shoddy investigative work and throw out cases even before an accused is called to make his defence, alarm bells should ring. Why? Because it undermines the confidence Malaysians have in the ability of the police to solve crimes and of the prosecutors to put the right people behind bars."

From BBC, 20 Sept 2005 ... "Ah Hing referred to his (sic) as "our company". It's a pragmatic affair, where deals are reached with the authorities - who set boundaries for crimes they know can never be eliminated. If I want to operate on a particular street and ask a politician to ask the authorities not to disturb me, the politician might say: 'It's impossible to have zero arrests, so you can operate on certain hours and we will patrol after those hours' - so it's a win-win situation," Ah Hing said.

The alarm bells are ringing but is anyone listening?

Willing To Reach Out?

I do not personally know them nor have I met them but that doesn't mean I can't do anything to help. The two of them, Alicia Ngiam and Yvonne Foong are facing the challenge of their lives. Reading about what they are going through moved me to make this appeal for support.

Alicia, aged only 13, was knocked down by a lorry at the infamous Giant junction in Subang Jaya on 3 Sep 2005. She lost her spleen, part of her lungs and suffered 4 fractured ribs and a broken leg. Right now she is in semi-conscious state at Sunway Medical Center SJMC. My community members are rallying for support to help her financially strained single mother meet medical bills and expenses.

Yvonne, aged 19, is afflicted with Neurofibromatosis, type 2, (NF-2) which is a rare inherited disorder characterized by the development of benign tumors on both auditory nerves (acoustic neuromas). The disease is also characterized by the development of malignant central nervous system tumors as well. She's losing her hearing pretty fast and unless she undergoes surgery soon she risks losing it completely. She will need at least RM200K for that.

Would it be too much to ask you to REACH OUT to help make a difference for both Alicia and Yvonne?

Snatch Theft

It happened just this morning in USJ 18 at about 7.30am and my wife almost became a victim. Thank God for my constant reminders that she is always on alert mode.

A Golden Nugget

A piece of a gem from Zig Ziglar - You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want. How about adopting it as your personal philosophy?
